The Swedish Society for the Study of English (SWESSE) was founded in 2005. The purpose of the association is to advance research and teaching of the English language, literature and culture in Sweden. It serves as a forum co-operating with English departments in Sweden to organize conferences, symposia and workshops. SWESSE members are also members of the Nordic Association of English Studies (NAES).
All SWESSE members will automatically become members of the European Society for English Studies (ESSE). ESSE is a European federation of national higher associations with the purpose of promoting the study and understanding of English languages, literatures and cultures of English-speaking peoples.
All ESSE members receive The European English Messenger, which is published twice a year and are entitled to participate in the biennial conferences organized by ESSE.
Teachers, researchers, and doctoral students affiliated with English departments at Swedish universities are annually invited to join SWESSE; the membership fee is currently 250 SEK. Membership can also be arranged by contacting SWESSE’s treasurer, Anna Swärdh.
